Audience: Advisory Staff and Early Years Foundation Stage Co-ordinators

Considerable confusion exists in understanding the significance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities; concepts which have been addressed for many years. A curriculum which is focusing on child-initiated learning demands that we have a clear understanding of the role of the adult. Advisory staff and EYFS co-ordinators need to feel confident in supporting practitioners in developing their knowledge and skills in this key area.
This seminar will:
explore the implications of adults providing freedom and guidance;
reflect on the implications of promoting child-initiated learning;
consider how adults can best support children's interests and concerns;
provide examples of extending children's learning through play.
